Apopka commemorates an icon next month and gets a glimpse of a nearly completed and long-awaited transformational school in South Apopka.
"I'm proud to announce that the time has come to celebrate the completion of the OTC Apopka Campus," said Melissa Byrd, the District 7 OCPS Board Member. "The Ribbon Cutting and Plaque dedication in honor of Dr. Sharpe-Terrell will be on June 12th. We would love you to come out to celebrate this great facility in our community. Terrell was described as a "servant leader" who passed away in December 2021. She was a key problem solver for the South Apopka community as the longtime District 2 commissioner's aide.
The Orange Technical Center/Apopka Campus was a former convenience store near Phillis Wheatley Elementary School. Now, almost seven years since its acquisition, the little piece of land on 14th Street in South Apopka next to Wheatley will be an asset to the community and honor a truly iconic figure in Dr. Shirley Terrell-Sharpe.
According to its website, Orange Technical College has demonstrated a proven and rich tradition of changing lives through education since 1933. Its singular focus is supporting students in achieving their personal and professional goals. It deeply understands that there is more than one way to a great career, and it exists to help students get to where they want to go.
